UCF is getting a new $90 million tower for FBC Mortgage Stadium

UCF Knights’ FBC Mortgage Stadium is set to undergo a significant expansion with the approval of a $90 million tower addition. The Orange County Board of County Commission unanimously voted in favor of the project, which will be funded by excess revenues from the Tourist Development Tax over a period of 10 years.

The decision to invest such a substantial amount into the stadium demonstrates the commitment of the local government to the community and the belief in the potential benefits this expansion will bring. Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings expressed his satisfaction with the decision, stating, “This is my home, and I feel good about the decisions made that will translate to investments in our community. It’s an affirmation that this Board of County Commission also believes in our community.”

The FBC Mortgage Stadium, completed in 2007, provided the UCF Knights with an on-campus facility after playing off-campus for 28 seasons at the Florida Citrus Bowl, now known as Camping World Stadium. With a capacity of 45,301, the stadium initially cost $73.9 million to construct when adjusted for inflation.

Over the years, the stadium has undergone various renovations and enhancements. Some notable additions include the Carl Black and Gold Cabana, a Florida-themed social area and lounge spanning 10,000 square feet, and the addition of field-level cabanas at the south end zone. The stadium club was also created, offering dedicated food and drink options and other amenities.

Technological advancements were not overlooked either, with upgrades to the video board and the installation of a ribbon display in the south end zone. These enhancements have improved the overall fan experience and made FBC Mortgage Stadium a cutting-edge venue for UCF Knights’ games.

The latest tower addition, financed through the Tourist Development Tax, will further elevate the stadium’s infrastructure and facilities. It is expected to be completed over the span of nine years, with $10 million allocated each year, beginning in 2025.
