A super PAC supporting Republican Sen. Tim Scott’s campaign for president has announced that billionaire David Steward will be its finance chair. Steward, the founder and chair of IT provider World Wide Technology, will play a crucial role in fundraising efforts for the political operation.
The pro-Scott PAC, called Trust In The Mission PAC, bringing on Steward comes at a critical time for Scott, who is trailing in the polls and is set to participate in Wednesday’s debate. According to the Morning Consult tracker, Scott currently has 2% support in the Republican primary, while former President Donald Trump leads with 58% support.
Steward, with an estimated net worth of $7 billion, according to Forbes, has been a significant donor to Republican politics. He has contributed $100,000 to former Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens’ campaign and $100,000 to a super PAC that supported former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush during his 2016 presidential run.
Steward’s decision to join and support Tim Scott’s presidential campaign is driven by Scott’s optimistic view of what America can accomplish for everyone. In a statement provided by the PAC, Steward said, “His [Scott’s] optimistic view of what America can do for everyone is one of the many reasons I’m proud to join TIM PAC as Finance Chairman and help him become the next president of the United States.”
The Trust In The Mission PAC has already raised over $19 million and had $15 million on hand going into the second half of the year, according to Federal Election Commission records. With Steward’s expertise and financial backing, the super PAC aims to further boost Scott’s campaign and increase support.
Former Republican Sen. Cory Gardner, a co-chair of the PAC, expressed enthusiasm about Steward joining the team, stating that “the support for Tim’s mission grows by the day, and we’re proud to have David on board as an important member of our team.”
As the race for the Republican presidential nomination continues, the addition of David Steward as the finance chair for Tim Scott’s campaign demonstrates the efforts being made to strengthen fundraising and build momentum for Scott’s bid. With Steward’s substantial financial resources and experience in the business world, the super PAC aims to make a significant impact on Scott’s campaign prospects.
