Penelope Christophorou, a highly experienced finance lawyer with over 25 years of experience, has recently joined the New York office of Morgan Lewis as a partner. Formerly with Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton, Penelope will provide counsel on commercial finance transactions, with a particular focus on matters related to bankruptcy.

Morgan Lewis, a prestigious law firm, is renowned for providing top-notch legal advice to financial institutions in major commercial centers around the world. The addition of Penelope to their team further strengthens their ability to advise clients on complex financial matters. Jami McKeon, Firm Chair of Morgan Lewis, expressed his confidence in Penelope’s ability to enhance the firm’s finance, bankruptcy, capital markets, structured transactions, and derivatives service offerings.

Penelope’s specialization lies in commercial financings and creditors’ rights. She advises and negotiates secured transactions, securities and digital asset holding arrangements, derivatives, structured financings, workouts, and debtor-in-possession financing. Her expertise also includes providing guidance on closeout and netting rights under the US Bankruptcy Code and other insolvency regimes. Additionally, she is a prolific writer and presenter on the Uniform Commercial Code.

Jonathan Bernstein, leader of Morgan Lewis’s finance practice, spoke highly of Penelope’s comprehensive knowledge of the relevant laws and her expertise in secured transactions, commercial finance, clearing transactions, bankruptcy, and related fields. He emphasized her standing and reputation in the financial market among clients and fellow practitioners. The firm is delighted to welcome her to their team.

Penelope’s arrival in New York comes in the wake of other recent additions to Morgan Lewis’s roster. In August, the firm welcomed a five-partner transactional restructuring and bankruptcy litigation team comprised of Richard Stern, Michael Luskin, Stephan Hornung, Matthew O’Donnell, and Alex Talesnick. Additionally, real estate finance partner Michael McCarthy also joined the firm during the same period.

The inclusion of Penelope Christophorou further solidifies Morgan Lewis’s presence in New York and enhances their capability to provide exceptional legal services to their clients in the finance and bankruptcy sectors. With her wealth of experience and expertise, Penelope is a valuable addition to the firm’s already impressive team of legal professionals.
