A San Francisco man has been accused of launching a violent rampage on Market Street in the Financial District, targeting random victims. Effrim Baker, 60, was apprehended by the police with the help of witnesses and bystanders who assisted the victims in the area of Market, 4th, and Battery streets on Sunday morning.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, Baker attacked three individuals and assaulted an elderly man in a wheelchair without provocation. The series of attacks occurred within a few minutes of each other, prompting the police to investigate multiple crime scenes simultaneously. Thanks to their timely intervention, the SFPD was able to prevent the violent offender from further harming the public.
The first victim, an elderly man seated in his wheelchair, was found at 7:34 a.m. with injuries to his face. A witness reported that Baker, the assailant, approached the victim and assaulted him for no apparent reason. Fortunately, a bystander intervened to help the elderly man.
Baker proceeded to stab a second man who managed to escape and contacted the police at 8 a.m. Only five minutes later, another victim was discovered on the 800 block of Market Street, also with stab wounds. The suspect had approached this individual and attacked him as well.
Police officers located a fourth stabbing victim nearby, and Baker was found at the scene with a knife in hand. The officers swiftly took him into custody to prevent further harm.
All four victims were swiftly transported to local hospitals for treatment. Baker, on the other hand, was taken to San Francisco County Jail, where he was booked on various charges, including aggravated assault, elder abuse, three counts of attempted homicide, and robbery.
