Exit Key Real Estate, a longstanding real estate business in Shapleigh, Maine, is preparing for an exciting new chapter as it relocates to a new address. The company, owned by Elias and Jane Thomas, has been serving the community for over 50 years at its old location near Mousam Lake. However, on September 30th, the business will open its doors in a new building at 920 Shapleigh Corner Road.
To mark the occasion, Exit Key Real Estate has organized a grand opening event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Howling Hunger Food truck will be on-site to provide delicious food, and Seacoast Oldies will broadcast live from the event. Community members from Shapleigh and beyond are invited to attend and join in the festivities.
Elias Thomas, co-owner of Exit Key Real Estate, expressed his gratitude for the years of support from the community and his excitement for the future at their new location. “We are honored to have had so many years serving our community and look forward to making even more of a difference in it at our new location,” said Thomas. “We hope everyone comes and celebrates this exciting new chapter.”
The history of the Shapleigh business dates back to before it operated under the Exit Realty name. According to Jane Thomas’ company bio, her father, Richard Duffy Leach, began selling properties in the Sanford area in the 1930s. He had a small office in the family home and was well known for holding office hours in front of the Sanford Trust Co. building during lunchtime.
Jane herself recalls the early days of the business, saying, “His business prospered and in 1970, Duffy, my sister Joan, and I decided to open a real estate office in what had been known for years as the Mousam Lake Dinette. I can still remember when we opened the office we had one lakefront listing ‘for sale’ and one listing ‘for rent.’ It was the same property and one which my father owned! Times have certainly changed!”
