Disney Announces $60 Billion Investment in Theme Parks Worldwide

Disney recently announced plans to invest $60 billion in Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, and other theme parks worldwide over the next decade. The announcement was made during an investor summit held at Walt Disney World in Florida.

The Disney Parks, Experiences and Products division will nearly double its investment in domestic and international theme parks and cruise ships. This significant investment reflects Disney’s commitment to providing unique and innovative experiences for its guests.

Disneyland has already shared exciting plans for new attractions, including a Marvel-themed dark ride in Avengers Campus and an Avatar experience in collaboration with producer James Cameron. These additions will bring beloved characters and stories to life in immersive ways.

“The parks business serves as a powerful platform where Disney’s beloved stories come to life in innovative ways and where fans across generations and geographies can connect with and explore the Disney brands and franchises they love,” stated a Disney press release.

This massive investment follows Disney’s previous major projects in the Anaheim theme park resort, including the highly successful Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland in 2019 and Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure in 2021.

Furthermore, Disney is hoping to obtain approval in 2024 for a large-scale expansion project called DisneylandForward. This project outlines long-term plans for theme park, retail, and parking expansion at the Disneyland Resort.

DisneylandForward has also hinted at potential expansion projects in Anaheim, such as a Zootopia land and Frozen lands similar to those in Shanghai Disneyland, Hong Kong Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Tokyo Disneyland.

As part of its growth strategy, Disney plans to explore even more characters and franchises that have not been extensively leveraged in their theme parks. This will enable Disney to tap into its broad fanbase and reach the estimated 700 million individuals worldwide who have a “high Disney affinity” but have not yet visited a Disney theme park.

With an average of 100 million annual visitors to Disney theme parks globally, this massive investment aims to continue attracting new guests and ensuring that the Disney magic continues to captivate audiences worldwide.

Stay tuned for further announcements about Disney’s exciting developments in the theme parks business at the end of the investor summit.
